“The Renal Patient in Focus” forum will focus on the “care” of the Renal patient just as much as the “cure”.

Theme

The Renal Patient in Focus

Overview

"As you have noticed, our patients are now older and sicker, with needs that seem to be increasing with every passing year.  So many more patients would rather choose not to have dialysis, especially if there is a supportive care pathway available. Launceston is emerging as a nationally recognised hub of a renal supportive care model that is driven by the renal team itself.  In this year’s meeting, we will focus on the 'care' for the renal patient just as much as the 'cure' " Dr Rajesh Raj.

We will have presentations from:

  • Dr Rajesh Raj, with a newly minted PhD, will share some of his thought-provoking qualitative research work into elderly patients on dialysis.
  • Clinical Psychologist, Carolyn Baker, will discuss the Psychology of Chronic Illness and the challenges of long-term chronic illness.
  • Social Worker, Michelle Nicholson, will discuss trauma informed care in the Renal space.
  • Palliative Care Clinical Nurse Educator, Katrina Crawford, will share how important it is to facilitate a good death for patients with a chronic illness, who have time to prepare.
  • CNC, Ailsa Jones with take us through the process of Advanced Care Directives and having this important conversation with our patients.
  • Renal Nurse, Jo Wilkinson will share a case study “A matter of Fabric”.

All in all, be prepared for a  thought - provoking day, filled with questions, discussions, challenges, food for thought, important conversations to be had……..a forum not to be missed ... The Renal Patient in Focus.
